Prepare for the civic integration exam in 30 days: a week-by-week plan
One month to go? Don't panic. A plan that balances KNS, Lezen and Spreken in just 45 minutes a day.
The civic integration exam abroad has three sections, and each one tests a different skill. KNS calls for memorisation and visual memory, Lezen for careful reading, and Spreken for speaking habits. That's why, in a 30-day plan, working on all three every week is more effective than finishing one before moving on to the next.
Week 1: lay the foundation
In the first week, your goal is to find out where you stand. Take one practice exam for each section and write down your results. Then read two KNS topic explanations every day.
- Monday: KNS Practice exam 1 and review your results
- Wednesday: Lezen Practice exam 1; mark your mistakes in the text
- Friday: answer 10 Spreken questions out loud
Weeks 2 and 3: focus on your weak spots
Divide your time based on the results from week one. Spend half of your daily study time on the section where you scored lowest.
| Day | Focus | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | KNS topic review + 1 practice exam | 45 min |
| Tuesday | Lezen: 2 texts, questions with tables | 40 min |
| Wednesday | Spreken: answer 10 questions out loud | 30 min |
| Thursday | Word games + weak topic | 30 min |
Week 4: dress rehearsal
In the final week, do the real exam simulation from start to finish at least twice. Experiencing the exam-day order and time pressure in advance helps calm your nerves.
- Take the simulation at around the same time of day as your exam.
- Leave your phone in another room; don't take breaks.
- Spread the two weakest topics from your results report over the last three days.
The day before the exam
Don't start any new topics. A short round of word games, repeating a few Spreken questions out loud and an early night will earn you far more points than last-minute cramming.
