In the Netherlands, you don't go straight to the hospital when you're ill; you first contact your GP, the huisarts. That's why registering with a GP near you is one of the first things to do after moving.
Registration steps
- List the GPs near your home; most state on their website whether they accept new patients.
- Fill in the registration form. You are usually asked for your ID, address and health insurance details.
- Some practices hold an introductory meeting; you'll be given a short appointment.
